Distorted Mirror

Shiny fingers
fabulous tables
sweet maidens
face sorrow
behind Gucci
shades

Fast world
tilt a whirl
lines on
her face
or her
mirror

Reflecting the
ugly she
sees, others
cannot see
so she
is devoured
like sweet
candy sucked
until it
turns others
ssour

Methods of Last Defense

the globe is warming
and Bush is eating corn
while bombs burn
women in robes
women in Washington
women who cannot speak
are spoken for with hate

killing is not strength
redemption is not death
AIDS is not health care
faith is not an excuse
make better kindness
we’ve got to cast better light

lobbying for pain
our dreams alert civil power
ethanol neighbors
babies without rights
the truth will save
but the planet will suffer

racism now
how about serenity now
for all colors, all progress
smoking out the world
immigrants moving
fighting targets
bleeding
breaking
man

humility is an orphan
dirty and rich
we’re swallowing glory as policy
with the promise of nothing
except the change we make
right now
